  • THLN/Humane Tomorrow District Lobby Day

You’re invited to join the Texas Humane Legislation Network and Humane Tomorrow for our first-ever North Texas District Lobby Day!

Loggy_Day_Image_2.jpgThe Texas legislature's 85th regular and special sessions have ended, and with the elections approaching this spring, state lawmakers are back in their home districts and focused on constituent matters. While many advocates "lobby" their legislators during session, many don't reach out in the interim years.

The off-session year is actually the most opportune time to truly make a lasting impression with state legislators, so that they remember when it counts. 2018 is also important to Texas as there is urgent animal protection legislation pending in Congress as we speak. Now is the time to advocate for humane legislation!

Register for our North Texas Lobby Day today! Advocates will be trained on effective interim lobbying and on current state and federal legislative issues. You will also have the opportunity to hear from a panel of local law enforcement on how you can help enforce laws once they're passed. Finally local state representatives will be stopping by to meet you and hear your concerns for a more humane Texas. Lunch is provided.

Loggy_Day_Image_1.jpgDon’t miss this great opportunity to network with other animal lovers, speak directly with legislators about passing strong laws for animals and learn how you can make a big difference for animals in 2018!

  • Central Texas Chapter Meeting

As you may know, 6,800 bills were filed in the 85th regular session -- the second most in the history of our state legislature. Yet, only 18% of bills filed passed this session -- the lowest number of bills passing since 1995! That makes the success of SB 762 all the more sweeter!

You are likely wondering what's next? What other animal bills passed and failed? What will the next legislative session hold, and how can we work in the interim to strengthen our statewide Network? Well, we've got plans to share!

Please join us at the next Central Texas Chapter meeting on July 9th at 2:00pm to brainstorm and learn how you can plug in over the critical next 18 months. Space is limited so please RSVP! Let's get organized and ensure the 86th Legislative Session continues our progress.
