I read today that Governor Abbott vetoed SB 474 on grounds that “Texas is no place for this kind of micromanaging and overcriminalization.” I was so sorry that the bill got so far, but yet he vetoed it. I went to the Capitol a few years ago to testify in favor of a similar bill. I don’t know why I wasn’t in the loop, so to speak, about SB 474. When I checked my email at [email protected], I discovered that I had not received an email from Texas Humane Legislation Network since 2015. Somehow, I got off your mailing list, but I would like to be on it again. And I am always willing to testify in favor of legislation like SB 474. It’s painful to think of dogs during the February freeze that may have lacked shelter from the cold. I will email Governor Abbott and express my utter dismay that he vetoed such important legislation for an important companion animal. My phone number is 512-217-7675. I just set up a new account specifically for emails from organizations like THLN whose work I support. The new email account is [email protected].

IMPORTANT: IF YOU ARE TRYING TO REPORT A NEGLECT OR ABUSE SITUATION, CONTACT YOUR LOCAL HUMANE SOCIETY, LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY, OR LOCAL ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER - DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR A THLN MEMBER AS WE ARE A LEGISLATIVE ORGANIZATION, NOT AN ENFORCEMENT AGENCY.
THLN's purpose is to pass effective legislation for the animals in the Texas Legislature. We do not have the resources to deal directly with animal cruelty or adoption issues, but we can recommend several organizations that do.
