  • Is there anything you can do in El Paso?

The shelter is currently not taking in some stray dogs and allowing them to run free in the community. It is because Best Friends Animal Society has come up with the HASS program for doing this – they have gone from 70s% live release rate in 2018, high 80s-90s in 2020-2021, now back down to 70s in 2023 (and this is taking in fewer animals with this implemented program, their #s would be lower if they did their job of taking in all animals and not just a select few)

IMPORTANT: IF YOU ARE TRYING TO REPORT A NEGLECT OR ABUSE SITUATION, CONTACT YOUR LOCAL HUMANE SOCIETY, LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY, OR LOCAL ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER - DO NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR A THLN MEMBER AS WE ARE A LEGISLATIVE ORGANIZATION, NOT AN ENFORCEMENT AGENCY.

THLN's purpose is to pass effective legislation for the animals in the Texas Legislature.  We do not have the resources to deal directly with animal cruelty or adoption issues, but we can recommend several organizations that do.
