Animal welfare organizations across Texas do important work every day, from caring for animals in shelters and veterinary clinics to enforcing animal cruelty laws, educating communities, and advocating for stronger protections.
The Texas Animal Welfare Alliance (TAWA) brings these organizations and professionals together to strengthen that work.
Created by the Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN), TAWA is a statewide coalition of animal welfare organizations, municipal animal service agencies, shelters, veterinary professionals, policy experts, and other partners working for animals throughout Texas.
The Alliance provides a space for members to communicate, share information and resources, coordinate efforts, and identify opportunities to work together on issues affecting animals statewide.
Why TAWA Exists
Texas is a big state, and challenges facing animals can look very different from one community to another. Many organizations work toward similar goals and face similar challenges. TAWA was created to help connect that work.
Through regular communication and collaboration, members can:
- Share information, resources, and expertise
- Learn from the experiences of organizations across Texas
- Identify common challenges and opportunities
- Coordinate efforts when collaboration can create greater impact
- Stay informed about emerging animal welfare issues
- Discuss legislative and policy developments
- Elevate effective solutions and successful programs
- Build stronger relationships across the Texas animal welfare community
A Statewide Network for Statewide Challenges
TAWA launched with 27 organizations representing animal welfare, municipal animal services, sheltering, veterinary medicine, public policy, and related fields. The Alliance brings together organizations with different missions, communities, expertise, and perspectives. Members will not necessarily agree on every issue, and participation does not require adopting a shared position on every topic.
Instead, TAWA creates a respectful environment where members can exchange ideas, learn from one another, identify areas of alignment, and find meaningful opportunities to work together.
Each organization remains independent and retains its own priorities, positions, programs, and advocacy strategies.
The Texas Animal Welfare Alliance is committed to building stronger connections throughout the Texas animal welfare community and creating more opportunities for organizations to learn, communicate, and collaborate. When organizations share knowledge and work together, we can strengthen the resources available to communities, elevate effective solutions, and help foster better outcomes for animals throughout Texas.
Together, we can make a more humane Texas possible.
