PETITION: TELL LEGISLATURE DOGS DESERVE ADEQUATE SHELTER
Every year we receive hundreds of calls and emails about dogs left outside suffering in the extreme Texas weather. We know law enforcement, the media, and everyday Texans are sometimes helpless to do anything when they see a dog succumbing to a heat stroke.
That’s partly because every jurisdiction in Texas handles these cases different. Why? Because we do not have a single definition of “adequate shelter” that everyone can use.
If the horror stories of animals freezing to death or dying in the Texas heat haunt you, you can do something NOW.
Sign our petition: tell Texas legislators dogs deserve adequate shelter.
Passing our tethering bill next session will allow us to include a statewide definition of "adequate shelter" as a minimum standard of shelter that all pet owners should have to meet. Once we have this definition in place, local law enforcement and animal control officers will be able to act swiftly.
Please help us change the fate of Texas animals. They can’t afford to wait.

Your generous donation helps us to promote and advocate for humane animal legislation! THLN does not require a membership fee, but we do rely solely upon donations to fund our important work. Successful legislation requires professional lobbyists, who in turn require significant funds for their services.
While we are a non-profit registered with the IRS, our tax exemption status is a 501c4, not a 501c3, thus our expenses are tax deductible, but our income is not. This means we can’t offer a tax deduction for donations.
Every dollar we receive goes directly to promote protective animal legislation.Donate

Thank you for participating in this 10 question survey! Many of these animal welfare issues were addressed in legislation that failed in the 2017 Texas session, and others represent areas of concern consistently reported by our stakeholders, partners and chapters. We know this is not a comprehensive list of all areas of crises for animals, and we welcome your feedback.Take the survey

Thank you for helping us Legislate to Change Their Fate! Without strong laws in place, and without a punishment that fits the crime, animals will continue to suffer at the hands of abusers. Your gift will help us change the outcomes for animals now and generations to come.
