Created by THLN, the Alliance provides a consistent forum for organizations to communicate, share information and resources, coordinate advocacy efforts and identify opportunities to join forces on statewide animal welfare priorities.

“Texas has an extraordinary community of organizations working every day to protect animals and support the people who care for them,” said Kolby Monnig, Senior Director of Government Relations for THLN. “The Texas Animal Welfare Alliance gives us a place to bring that knowledge and experience together. By communicating regularly and working collaboratively, we can reduce duplication, strengthen our collective impact and achieve better outcomes for animals across our state.”

The Alliance will hold regular meetings focused on practical collaboration, emerging animal welfare issues, legislative and policy developments, available resources and opportunities for coordinated action.

“Texas communities are confronting complex challenges, from shelter capacity to the sale of puppies sourced from cruel puppy mills,” said John Goodwin, Senior Managing Director of Puppy Mills and Equine Protection for Humane World for Animals, formerly called the Humane Society of the United States. “The Alliance gives us an important opportunity to share expertise, build public understanding and work together on responsible solutions that protect animals and consumers.”

The Alliance is intended to create a respectful space where members can exchange information, build stronger relationships and speak with a unified voice on areas of alignment. Participation in the Alliance does not replace the independent work, priorities or positions of its member organizations.

“Each participating organization brings a different perspective, area of expertise and connection to communities across Texas,” Monnig said. “That diversity is one of the Alliance’s greatest strengths. We will not agree on every issue, but we can still learn from one another and find meaningful ways to work together.”
