Soon, Texas sentences will look like this one

A Chicago area man was sentenced to five years in prison last month for felony aggravated animal cruelty. The man threw two small dogs off the top of a parking garage. He allegedly acquired the dogs by responding to a “found pet” ad and posing as the dogs’ owner.

In Texas, this kind of violent offense currently results in as little as six months’ jail time. But when our new animal cruelty law (Senate Bill 762) goes into effect on September 1, offenders will be looking at more significant sentences.

Just a few more days to go SB 762 goes into effect! Join us as we count down to the day when the punishment fits the crime.
