Dear Friends and Supporters,
It has come to our attention recently that documents containing information regarding the Bureau of Land Management's Wild Horse and Burro Program and Horse Management Areas in the 1970s were being kept by former BLM employee, Robert Springer. Mr. Springer was the first to be hired by the BLM to find proper management for the wild horses in Washington, DC. In 1976, he testified before the Supreme Court that upheld the Wild Horse and Burro Act of 1971 that wild horses are to be federally protected. Without his passionate testimony, we might not have any wild horses left on the range today.
These historical documents have been personally gifted to Saving America's Mustangs by Robert Springer and his family after so many years of keeping them private. By sharing his documents, it allows his legacy and life's work of finding a proper solution for our wild horse to be carried out. We are eternally grateful that he has chosen to share his story and this incredible information with our Foundation. There were six, full boxes that have passed to us, but we have put together a portion of some very interesting facts for you all to read online. We thank you all for being so supportive in this process of finding a working solution to this on-going program. We are confident that Mustang Monument: Wild Horse Eco- Sanctuary is the right solution and we look forward to having you all there with us very soon.
Respectfully,
Madeleine Pickens
