Please place a brief call immediately to the D.C. office of:
Quick Summary: America's horses need your calls today to prevent horse slaughter plants from reopening in the U.S.!
U.S. Senator - Texas
Kay Bailey Hutchison
(202) 224-5922Politely state: "As a constituent, living in Texas, I ask that you please retain language in the Agriculture Appropriations Bill that bans the use of tax dollars to fund horse slaughter inspections. The overwhelming majority of Americans oppose horse slaughter and do not want this cruel industry re-established in our country. Thank you."Act now. The vote may happen any day.BACKGROUND:
Until recently, there were a handful of foreign-owned horse slaughterhouses in the United States, many of them in Texas, that butchered horses for markets in Europe and Asia, where horse meat is considered a delicacy.
Americans spoke out against this practice, and since 2005, Congress has prevented horse slaughter in the U.S. by cutting funds for inspections of horse meat from its annual Agriculture Appropriations Bill.
Some legislators are arguing that we should resume funding inspections for horse slaughterhouses. Allowing these inspections would allow these horrific slaughterhouses to reopen on U.S. soil!Senator Hutchison of Texas is on the Congressional Conference Committee that will determine the final Agriculture Appropriations Bill. This will determine whether or not horse slaughterhouses will be allowed to reopen in the U.S.
A vote on this issue is expected any day, so please call immediately! What else you can do:
